September 29, 2006:
A note from Mia…
This past month has been wonderful… well… except for the time that I almost choked to death on a nickel and gave
Mommy a heart attack. Mommy and I took Stella for a walk. I found a nickel on our walk and kept it so that I could
put it in my piggy bank when I got home. A few minutes later, I slipped the nickel in my mouth to clean it or taste it or
something. Two seconds after that, Stella ran and knocked me over. I hit my head on the road- ouch- it hurt!
Mommy rushed over to pick me up and I started to cry. Well, for about a second until my nickel really lodged down
into my throat. Mommy tried to get it out then ran with me to the neighbor’s house (who was doing yard work and
incidentally is waiting for his daughter’s referral from China). She was going to have him help with the Heimlich
maneuver, call 911 and call daddy. Just as we got to his yard, I puked a big puke and out flew that nickel. I cried
and Mommy hugged me. Mommy picked up that nickel and put it in my piggybank for me.
Other than that, I have had lots of fun this past month. GiGi and Pa came to visit. We celebrated mine and Nanny
Ruth’s birthday with a huge cake. It was lots of fun. I love having company! Right now, Uncle Scot and Pa are
visiting and then Grandma K and Uncle Walker come to visit me next week. Some big news, I used the potty
yesterday for the first time without any help. You see, my latest passion is to run around naked. Since I refuse to
wear diapers, I tend to pee on the floor a lot. Yesterday I surprised Daddy with a trip to the bathroom to go pee pee
in the potty all by myself. Hooray for me! I will wear Dora pull-ups if I have to wear diapers, and then, I only like the
ones that have balloons. We ran out of the balloons so Mommy took a Sharpie and drew balloons on my diapers.
It worked for a while, but then I grew wise to her trick. I am really turning into a big girl. I love to put two and three
words together and I am learning new words every day. Daddy’s favorite “Mia word” is meck-a-less which is my
word for necklace. I still like to make messes every where I go. Throwing food all over is one favorite activity of
mine. Maybe I will be a chef when I grow up. I did help Mommy make french toast one morning. I enjoy hanging
out with my buddy Sully. We often eat together at my pink table. Daddy has bought me a couple of big mylar
balloons which are so cool! We also play a game called North, South, East, West. Daddy scratches my back and I
have learned the compass rose and tell him which direction to scratch. Mommy thinks it is very funny. I love
running around our living room in circles and yelling my name, “Mia, Mia, Mia!” I have a couple of new foods that I
like, including fish sticks, cheese pizza and won tons. One thing I have started doing during the past couple of
weeks (that is breaking Mommy’s heart) is crying when she leaves for work in the morning. I usually don’t cry if I
am staying home with Daddy for the day, but I do cry if Nanny Jane is watching me. Yesterday morning, I locked
onto Mommy’s leg as she was walking out the door, Nanny Jane picked me up and I really cried. I was okay a few
minutes after Mommy left, but sometimes I just wish I could stay with Mommy forever! I will be two next week! Bye
for now!
P.S. Mommy and Daddy bought me an awesome doll house for my birthday. Mommy put it together when we got it
in the mail. She was supposed to wait until my birthday to give it to me, but she didn't! I really like it!
