October 18...
We go to the U.S. Consulate to take our oath today.
Mia had a great morning.  She woke up, played with Mommy, had a bath and then went with Mommy and Daddy to eat the breakfast buffet.  She likes
the congee, watermelon, and scrambled eggs.  Then Mommy and Daddy went shopping (yes, again!).  We skipped the zoo trip- I had a bit of a
tummyache and didn't feel like walking around in a zoo.  We ate lunch in the room and got ready for our afternoon Consulate appointment.  I am happy
to say that we are now finished with all of our paperwork and we have Mia's passport and US visa!  Our group went to the Consulate this afternoon to
complete everything.   We had to walk up to a window and show a Consulate worker copies of our passports.  She looked at the three of us to make
sure that we were who we said we were and that we had the correct baby.  After doing this, we stood up with numerous other families, raised our right
hands, and repeated an oath saying that we promised all of our paperwork was honest.  After the oath, we all clapped- yeah!  Mia can go to her new
home now- America.  There were a lot of other families there- it was almost surreal.  So many babies being adopted and that is what it is like every day
at the Consulate here in Guangzhou.  After all of this, our guide, Raymond, handed out all of the baby passports with US visas, but Mia's had a mistake.
They had typed her birth date as Oct. 6, 2005 instead of 2004.  Thus, we had to stay at the Consulate for over an hour with Raymond while the rest of
the group went back to the hotel.  The Consulate had to reissue the visa.  Thank goodness Raymond took care of that or it could have been a real
problem.
When we got back to the hotel, our group was waiting for us to take the infamous red couch photos.  We then ate a buffet dinner.  Right now we are
packing since we leave tomorrow morning.  Wow.  I cannot believe that our trip is coming to an end, yet our lives are just beginning with Mia.  It has
been an incredible experience that we will treasure forever.  We are so excited to get home and continue building our lives together.  I don't know if we
will have time to post tomorrow morning as I know it will be very busy.  Our next message with most likely be from home.  Thanks to all of you for your
encouragement.  I look forward to introducing Mia to our family and friends.  She is a special little girl and we are so lucky to have her as our daughter.
Love to all.  Signing off from China...
