October 13...

Nanning
Hello all!  Jon is getting us a Chinese lunch right now and Mia is crashed in bed so I figured I would use my few free minutes to update you on our day today.  We
went with some people from our group on a morning trip to a Buddhist temple and pagoda.  In the temple, we had Mia blessed by a monk (you will notice a red mark
on her forehead from it in some of the photos).  It was spiritual and moving.  Daddy videotaped it so we will be able to show Mia when she is older.  We walked on
the world's longest bamboo bridge, saw a beautiful pagoda, and fed the most hungry carp/koi ever.  We also got to see a huge, colorful representation of the
Zhuang people finding their mate in life.  They dress in colorful clothes, sing songs to one another, and then the women throw embroidered balls to the mates of
their choice.  If a mate accepts the love offering, they attach a small gift to the ball and toss it back to the woman.  In one of the areas, there was a tourist trap-
dress up in traditional costumes and have your photo taken- so of course we had to do it!  We now have a few laminated colored computer print-outs to remind Mia
what silly parents she has now.  Friends also took photos so I will post one below.  A funny memory for the scrapbook.  Overall, it was a great trip, but Mia was a little
tired by the end.  I fed her a bottle and she fell asleep on the bus ride back to the hotel.  She has been fighting off sleep so I hope she gets a good nap in this
afternoon.  Even with little sleep, she is such a good baby.  She has her cranky moments, but has not cried for more than a couple of minutes in a row.  Mia
definitely likes us both, but she likes to be comforted and held by mommy the majority of the time, especially when she is feeling unhappy.  She always runs her
fingers through my hair as I hold her- a comforting mechanism that she is developing I think.  Mia has a rash on her face that gets worse in the heat or when she
cries so we will have our pediatrician take of this when we are home.  Poor thing.  It has been so much fun discovering her personality.  She makes a ham of a face
when she is being silly- we got a photo of her making this face after a bottle today and will post it below.  We're going to have lunch in our room while baby sleeps,
have playdate in the hallway with other babies, and then go out to dinner.  Tomorrow Michael gets all of Mia's paperwork back.  We then leave for our last
destination, Guangzhou, on Saturday.  One week from today we will be flying home on the airplane!  I am posting another photo collage from our day's events from
start to finish.  Enjoy!
